Summary

First, Hospital B will know that Jerry had a broken foot. A radiologist at Hospital B along with the orthopedic surgeon could look at his physical x-rays in the DICOM file and see the fracture. They could also read the interpretation section by the radiologist at Hospital A in the radiology report.

Second, Hospital B will NOT know the results of Jerry’s blood work. This information is considered to be lab work, which falls under the category of clinical data that is stored in the EMR, but not in the DICOM standard.

Finally, Hospital B will NOT know about Jerry’s medical history. Jerry’s medical history is also stored separately in the EMR and is not part of the DICOM study.
